This December, BMW fans can see the BMW Vision EfficientDynamics concept car in action in Mission Impossible 4: Ghost Protocol. Tom Cruise will drive the BMW in the film. Fans can already get a glimpse of the car in the movie’s trailer.

Ian Robertson, who is in charge of BMW’s global sales and marketing, said the Vision EfficientDynamics concept “is the perfect car for Ethan Hunt to outsmart his pursuers through narrow streets and busy city traffic.”

BMW has a long history of providing vehicles to movies and TV shows. Many films feature BMW cars, like James Bond movies GoldenEye (Z3) and The World is Not Enough (Z8). Other BMWs have appeared in the Bourne Trilogy movies, other Mission: Impossible movies, Gone in 60 Seconds and The Da Vinci Code, just to name a few. BMW even created its own series, The Hire, to show off the performance abilities of various BMW cars.

The BMW Vision EfficientDynamics concept car is the base for the 2014 BMW i8, which will debut in 2013. Unveiled in 2009 at the Frankfurt Motor Show, the concept car is a 2+2 seater plug-in hybrid that gets 75.1 mpg and gets a 327hp with its 3-cylinder turbo charged diesel engine.

The 2014 BMW i8 was unveiled at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show and will use a 7.2 kWh lithium-ion battery that gives it a range of 22 miles. It can go from 0 to 60 in 4.6 seconds and will have a fuel efficiency of 80mpg in the US. With a 220V, the car can reach a full charge in two hours.

Until 2013, BMW fans will have to be satisfied with the glimpse the Mission Impossible movie provides.
