Some extremely fortunato members of Italy’s Arma dei Carabinieri will get to drive one of two new Lotus Evora S sports cars. The Evoras will be put to use by the Carabinieri, a division of the Italian military, in Rome and Milan.
The cars have been outfitted with lights, communications equipment, and a voice-recognition system called Enhanced Vehicle Automation. The Lotuses also have a refrigerated compartment behind the front seats which can be used during high-speed deliveries of donated organs or blood.
What law enforcement official wouldn’t want to be in hot pursuit of bad guys in a badass, super fast ride? Let me rephrase, would these bad guys even stand a chance of really getting away? The Evora S packs a supercharged 3.5-liter V-6 with 345 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque. Lotus says the car can hit 60 mph in 4.6 seconds and manage a top speed of 172 mph.
Not just any Carabinieri member gets to pilot the Evoras — certain members of the team were sent to Lotus’ headquarters in Norfolk, England to receive elite training. Can you believe this, the staff at Lotus of Scottsdale is shocked and considering moving to Italy and changing professions. How do you say “We’re jealous” in Italian?
