Ford’s new feature, called Operator Assist, offers live operators to help Sync Services subscribers find a business or get turn-by-turn directions. This customer enhancing experience is Fords attempt to compete with GM’s OnStar service. This technology will be in trail phase this summer, it should be available for Sync Services users with 2010, 2011 and 2012 models.
Sync has not offered live operators before however, this new system will give driver choice to interact with live representative or voice recognized system. Operator Assist is for registered users of Sync Services at no extra charge. No additional software or hardware is needed. Ford’s Sync is an in-vehicle infotainment system that pairs with a driver’s Bluetooth mobile device for hands-free operation. Sync Services is a cloud-based, on-demand and voice-activated service that provides information about traffic, news, sports, weather, horoscopes, stock quotes and movie listings along with business searches and turn-by-turn directions. Ford made sure to spend a lot of the development phase working on the business searches and directions because they have surveyed that about 70 percent of Syncs current calls regard this. Therefore the new Sync Services will have more than 14 million business listings.
One feature that Penske Ford is really excited about is for our customers to be able to a search for a business while drive along or have the navigation on and be able to ask to be connected to a live operator. In an interesting twist, the drivers will also be able to receive a text message with the name, address, phone number and information about the business (applies to certain phone carrier networks) or be directly connected to the phone of the business.
