Audi AG and Penske Audi are pleased to announce that it has been recently decided that a vehicle assembly plant in North America will be constructed in the near future. Also, Audi is considering an additional engine and transmission plant in N. America. That second plant could be shared with VW division.
Volkswagen Group’s premium brand is completing details of the assembly plant — including models, location and capacity. Audi predicts these decisions will be finalized and put in production in the next three years.
Audi is very aware of the need to infiltrate the U.S. market and what better way than having a local plant to increase their local content. Inventory has been a pressing issue for Audi in recent months. In 2010 Audi set a sales record in 2010 with 101,629 sales in the United States. The goal is for the U.S. plant to help increase American sales by 10 to 20 percent immediately and potentially surpass 150,000 units by 2015.
Penske Audi is very pleased by this announcement. Not only will it mean Audi is contributing to the U.S. job market but that our constant pleas to have a larger inventory and shorter delivery times has been answered.
Looking to the future Audi has created a “Strategy 2020″ plan. The brand aims to nearly double its global sales by the end of the decade. Last year, Audi sold 1.1 million new cars. Sales predictions indicate that the original goal of 1.5 million cars for 2015 will be reached a year earlier than planned. With that in mind a new goal has been put in place — by 2020 Audi wants to sell 2 million cars. In Audi’s plans for the future they have wants to increase their global line from 38 models this year to 42 in 2015 and 50 by 2020.
