Calling all car enthusiasts! On Sunday, July 31 the classic car show, Concours d’Elegance of America will open. The 33rd annual automobile shows will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at The Inn at St. John’s in Plymouth Township, Mich. Exhibits will consist of 330 vintage vehicles as works of art.
The show has had a venue change this year and organizers claim, “It’s bigger and better this year and there will be something for every generation of automobile lovers.” Local car heroes have even gotten involved; Penske Automotive Group’s very own Roger Penske will be opening the doors to a private company tour of Ilmor Engineering, a racing engine design and build firm partly owned by Roger Penske. Ilmor Engineering Incorporated is the designer and builder of many types of racing engines including Indy, NASCAR, midget, baja and kart, along with marine high performance and racing worldwide.
Hometown Team Penske will also be part of a 33-car display of past Indy cars dating all the way back to 1911 when the very first iconic Indianapolis 500 was run. The display will include two previous Indy 500 winners the:
1988 PC17 Pennzoil Indy 500 winning car
Driver: Rick Mears; his 3rd Indy 500 win;
2001 Dallara/Oldsmobile Indy 500 winning car
Driver: Helio Castroneves; his first win at Indy.
Penske executive Walter Czarnecki is very amped about event opening, “We’re more than excited, we hope this will bring out people who otherwise might not attend the Concours.”
