Have you ever wondered if your city in the United States is ranked somewhere amongst the top of a best driver’s report? Well, now is your chance to find out, for the sixth year in a row Allstate just published its “Best Driver’s Report” study ranking the 200 largest cities in the United States as to the frequency of car collisions.

This year’s top honor of “America’s Safest Driving City” is Fort Collins, Colorado. According to the report, the average driver in Fort Collins will experience an auto collision every 14.5 years, which is about 31 percent less likely than the national average. Other cities that made the top 10 include Boise, Idaho, Lincoln, Neb., Chandler, Ariz., Huntsville, Alaska, Knoxville, Tenn., Springfield, Mo., Reno, Nev., Eugene, Ore. and Chattanooga, Tenn.

The accident rate in D.C. is double the national average, making it last out of 196 in the rankings, which are based on insurance claims. Drivers average an accident every 4.8 years. Other cities worth avoiding include Baltimore, Md. and Glendale, Calif. Some cities saw big swings since 2010 polling, however. Tampa fell 22 places to 176th. Bridgeport, Conn., and Torrance, Calif., both fell 15 places. If that sounds discouraging, consider some of the success stories. Tempe, Ariz., improved by 27 places and Laredo, Texas, was up 29. But none can top Jackson, Miss., when it comes to improvement, which was up 92 places.

See if your city made this list, here.

Allstate recognizes that auto crashes in general have declined over the last few years, but crash fatalities still average around an alarming 35,000 every year despite technological advances, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Human error mainly distracted driving are credited with a large portion of these incidents.

Allstate, like Penske, advocates for safe driving. There is a belief that driver’s education may help increase driver knowledge and care behind the wheel. Poor drivers need to be educated on the importance of being aware while behind the wheel and in being more patient and tolerant on the roads towards other drivers. It is when people are texting and driving, cutting others off on the road or running red lights that seem to be when most accidents occur. Some accidents may be fender benders, which cause a major inconvenience to all those involved; however, other accidents can cause fatalities, which are insurmountable tragedies.Penske Automotive Groups reminds you to be attentive behind the wheel.  Your safety is important to us.
