2012 MINI Cooper Coupe
The new 2012 Mini Cooper Coupe has arrived and is now another part of the MINI family. It’s looking sharp and stylish, waiting for you to come down and take a look.
MINI has introduced a new design with their first two-passenger automobile, the MINI Cooper Coupe. While maintaining the fun and trendy spirit the MINI brand is known for, MINI has designed a sportier car with a more aggressive, wider stance.
While MINI designers based the Cooper Coupe on current MINI platforms and architecture, and it is distinctively “MINI” in look, it takes a drastic design turn with its new roofline and 3-box design. This design is composed of the body, wraparound glass, and roof as three boxes on a horizontal plane. As a sports car, the Cooper Coupe is the first MINI to include a spoiler, which deploys at 50 mph, and then at 37 mph, recedes back down.
The Coupe will come in three different types: the base Cooper Coupe, the Cooper S Coupe, and the John Cooper Works Coupe. All three come with variants of the 1.6L four-cylinder engine, with six-speed manual transmission. In the Cooper Coupe and Cooper S Coupe, six-speed automatic transmission is also available.
The base Cooper Coupe model has a 121 horsepower and 118 lb-ft of torque. It can go from 0 to 60mph in 8.3 seconds, has a top speed of 127 mph, and is expected to get 28mpg in the city, 36mpg on the highway, and 31mpg combined.
The real power comes with the Cooper S and JCW Coupe. These models have a twin-scroll turbocharger and direct-injection to the 1.6L 4-cylinder engine. With 181 horsepower and 177 lb-ft of torque, the S Coupe can go from 0-60mph in 6.5 seconds and can achieve a top speed of 142 mph. Finally, the JCW Coupe has a horsepower of 208, 192 lb-ft of torque, and can go 0-60 mph in 6.1 seconds. The JCW Coupe’s top speed is 149 mph. The Cooper Coupe is also the fastest box-stock MINI to date, and according to designers, it is the best-handling, best-performing model in the MINI lineup.
